Marks of Distinction
ASA promotes legal, ethical, and professional practices for the staffing industry. Staffing firm owners, executives, managers, recruiters, and other employees committed to legal, ethical, and professional practices earn Certified Staffing Professional™ and Technical Services Certified™ designations from ASA.
The nearly 4,000 professionals permitted to bear the CSP or TSC marks of distinction have objectively demonstrated their understanding of state and federal employment laws as they relate to staffing company operations, as well as familiarity with the ASA Code of Ethics and Good Practices.
To earn the CSP mark of distinction, individuals must pass a 100-question exam taken in two hours. They prepare for the exam by studying ASA course materials, including Employment Law for Staffing Professionals, Co-Employment: Employer Liability Issues in Third-Party Staffing Arrangements, federal and state employment law workbooks, and supplemental learning tools.
To earn the TSC designation, staffing professionals study content related to technical staffing and must answer 20 additional questions in the two-hour exam; those who earn the TSC designation automatically earn the CSP designation.
After earning these designations, certified professionals maintain their credentials through continuing education programs offered by ASA and other approved providers. Certified individuals must complete at least 30 hours of approved continuing education every three years. At least six of the 30 CE hours must pertain to employment law.

Professional Certification
Staffing World is the best time to earn your Certified Staffing Professional™ or Technical Services Certified™ designation. You can participate in a certification review of federal employment law for staffing professionals to complement your individual study. And you can take a certification exam on site. Both in one day. Then, by the end of the week, you could earn half of the continuing education hours needed to renew your designation.
Here’s how to get certified in one day in three easy steps:
- Be sure to include the certification review session in your Staffing World 2010 registration.
- Purchase certification materials, including state content and the exam, and study course materials before attending Staffing World 2010; allow ample time to receive and study course materials.
- Participate in the two-hour review session and take the exam Oct. 12.
Certification Review
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
During this two-hour session, ASA deputy general counsel Stephen Dwyer, Esq., will outline the key topics covered in the CSP and TSC exams, lead a review discussion of federal employment law for staffing professionals, and engage in a question-and-answer dialogue with participants. Dwyer's an expert with 15 years' experience on the legal and policy issues relating to the staffing industry. And he helped develop the ASA professional certification programs.
The review session is free for attendees who register for the full convention and expo package. If you are registering for a Staffing World package other than a full convention and expo package, the price is $79 for ASA members and $150 for nonmembers.
This is a terrific last-minute refresher that will leave you feeling motivated, confident, and ready for the exam.
CSP or TSC Exam
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2–4 p.m.
Staffing World offers a once-a-year opportunity to take the CSP or TSC exams in a proctored setting—questions answered on paper, within a time limit, in a room with other exam takers, and, of course, a proctor. Just like old college days.
To take an exam on site at Staffing World, an exam must be purchased in advance. You may order a CSP or TSC exam and accompanying course materials online or call ASA at 703-253-2020.
Exam results are tabulated overnight and will be available at the convention registration desk the next morning. Those who pass the exam will be provided new Staffing World badges that denote their newly earned designations: CSP or TSC.
And those who pass can immediately start earning continuing education hours toward their certification renewal.
Continuing Education
Staffing World 2010 offers multiple ways to earn continuing education hours toward retaining CSP or TSC designations. Just by attending the keynotes, Knowledge Network, and workshops, you can get up to 13 of the 30 continuing education hours required for certification renewal (including almost all of the required hours of legal CE.)

If you are already certified, attend the certification review and earn two hours of legal continuing education that apply toward your certification renewal. It’s free for attendees who register for a full convention and expo package, and $79 for members and $150 for nonmembers in other registration packages.
If you were certified before April 2007, you can earn an additional 1.5 legal CE hours by purchasing and studying a state employment law workbook, and purchasing and passing the state-specific portion of the exam. You can make both
