Teresa Carroll

Teresa Carroll, public board member and former president, Kelly Services

Teresa Carroll is a transformative, dynamic business executive who brings extensive board experience and a proven track record of driving change and delivering results, including architecting multiple turnarounds and leading a $2 billion operating unit to sustained record-setting profits. Carroll has held several leadership roles, including simultaneously serving as executive vice president, president of global talent solutions, and general manager of sales, marketing, and human resources, all for Kelly Services. Carroll’s board experience includes serving as an independent director of Zovio, an education management and technology company, and as a member of the Conference Board’s Labor Market Institute Advisory Board. Carroll earned a master of business administration from the University of Michigan. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers and founding council member of Leadership in Action, Kelly Services’ business resource group for the development and advocacy of female leaders.


Joanie Courtney

Joanie Courtney, chief marketing officer, EmployBridge Holding Co.

Courtney is chief marketing officer of EmployBridge Holding Co. and president of the company’s RemX division. She is responsible for the division’s growth strategy, including sales, marketing, operations, recruiting, and employee development. As an employment industry expert, she is often called upon to discuss the job market, careers, and workplace trends; she speaks to the talent supply and demand cycles that affect U.S. employers. She is frequently featured as a keynote speaker at industry conferences, and her commentary on the employment market has been featured in several media outlets. Courtney serves on the ASA board of directors.


Kelly Irons

Kelly Irons, chief executive officer, developUs

Irons is the chief executive officer of developUs, a Charlotte, NC-based employee development firm. With 20 years of training design and delivery experience, 10-plus years in leadership development roles, and a master’s degree in adult education, Irons has a long history of working with those in the learning and development field as well as audiences from a multitude of backgrounds and industries. Her leadership style and commitment to individual and organizational excellence have earned her multiple awards throughout her career. Today, her roots in human development have remained at the core of her business practice, and she operates under a guiding philosophy that to make an impact on a group, you must make an impact on the individuals that make up the group. From this foundation, her work in coaching, mentoring, and leadership emerged.


Janette Marx

Janette Marx, chief executive officer, Airswift

Marx started with Airswift in 2014 and served as chief operating officer for four years before assuming her present role as chief executive officer. She has a passion for investing in the development of people to help everyone achieve their aspirations. Throughout her career, Marx has championed new initiatives, including diversification strategies, sales and recruitment growth improvements, and operational efficiencies. She has led cutting-edge programs to give her teams a competitive advantage. Before Airswift, Marx served in various leadership roles with the Adecco Group over a 19-year period. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master of business administration.


Rachel Modrak

Rachel Modrak, partner, Staffing eTrainer

Modrak is a staffing industry trainer and consultant. She started her career in 1997, and throughout her 17-year tenure with CoWorx, she played a critical role in the operational strategy. She went on to work for Adecco as vice president of operations, where she supported a $350+ million division providing strategy in service for large clients, order fulfillment, and associate recruiting and retention. In 2017 she created Apex Staffing Consulting Group to provide strategic solutions that solve problems by improving strategy, training, and hiring.


Joyce Russell

Joyce Russell, president, Adecco Staffing

Russell is committed to making the future work for everyone and has firmly established her reputation and passion for working with people and providing new opportunities for both employees and companies. In 1987, Russell joined Adecco as a branch manager in Charlotte, NC. From 2004–2018, she served as the president of Adecco Staffing U.S., leading the largest business unit of Adecco Group North America, with more than 450 branch locations, approximately 1,800 colleagues and a diverse portfolio of clients. In 2015, Staffing Industry Analysts named Russell in their Global Power 100—Women in Staffing list. Russell is a member of the ASA board of directors.


Brittany Sakata

Brittany Sakata, associate general counsel, American Staffing Association

Sakata is associate general counsel for ASA. She is an experienced labor and employment attorney with more than 15 years of experience counseling and litigating matters on behalf of individuals and employers. She advises ASA members on labor and employment law and policy issues, including equal employment opportunity, wage and hour, and immigration law; occupational safety and health issues; and the U.S. National Labor Relations Board.


Mark Shoffner

Mark Shoffner, partner, BellNunnally

Shoffner represents and counsels clients in employment law and litigation matters at BellNunnally. He defends companies against claims under the FLSA, payday laws, and anti-discrimination statutes. Shoffner has prosecuted cases for clients seeking to protect their trade secrets and enforce non-compete and non-solicitation agreements. He also regularly counsels clients on employment best practices, including regular reviews of employee handbooks and policies. In addition, Shoffner maintains a commercial litigation practice in which he represents clients in partnership disputes, breach of contract and fraud cases, and breach of fiduciary duty matters. Shoffner represents publicly traded and privately held corporations, investor funds, and individuals.


Chris Taylor

Chris Taylor, founder and chief executive officer, Actionable.co

Taylor founded Actionable in 2008 with the goal of helping leaders and teams access new ideas through Actionable Books. As the Actionable community grew, Taylor found his mission: to harness technology and the power of behavioral change to build more effective organizations. More than 10 years later, Actionable is used in over 400 organizations in 14 countries. A sought-after speaker and the creator of the 21st Century Workplace podcast, Taylor is deeply knowledgeable about the forces impacting today’s culture change and learning and development landscape. Before founding Actionable, Taylor held senior sales and marketing leadership roles in advertising and consumer goods companies.


Shad E. Tidler

Shad E. Tidler, consultant, Lushin and Associates

Tidler brings a level of intensity, discipline, and contagious enthusiasm to his work and life, as well as a healthy appreciation for both challenge and change. Over the last 15 years, Tidler has worked in sales, business development, market strategy, rate negotiation and pricing management, contract negotiation, and operations in the transportation/logistics/supply chain industry in the US and Asia. Over the past five years, Tidler has used his experience as a student and teacher to help business owners and their sales teams in various industries, including the staffing industry, fight through the challenges of managing and growing a strong sales pipeline. He works with sales teams by challenging their current mindset, techniques, and behaviors to build a high-growth sales organization. He knows how to loosen up the room and facilitate engaging sessions so that people walk away with a greater understanding of how to increase their sales potential and competitive advantage in the marketplace.
