Super Session: Data Privacy and Cybersecurity: Not Just a Big Company Problem

1.0 Legal CE Hour
Cybersecurity issues have become a daily struggle for businesses big and small. The latest statistics on cybersecurity issues reveal a huge increase in hacked and breached data from sources that are increasingly common in the workplace, like mobile devices and social media. On top of this, the Covid-19 pandemic has created new remote workforces, opening up new entry opportunities for cyber attackers. How do you protect the data of your company and your employees? What insurance should you have? What state and federal laws do you need to be aware of? And how do you protect your information when dealing with vendors? Hear from and query an expert panel that will answer these questions and many more about how to keep your business safe.

Presenters: Threase A. Baker, TSC, CSP, president, Abbtech Professional Resources; Maureen Dry-Wasson, Esq, vice president, group general counsel, and global privacy officer, Allegis Group; Michael Jones, Esq., chief privacy officer, Randstad USA; and Robert Thompson, president, World Wide Specialty Programs Inc.

Super Session: Workplace Safety and Vaccine Programs in a Postpandemic World

1.0 Legal CE Hour
While Covid-19 vaccines should mean staffing firms have less to worry about, in fact, 2021 brings new legal and operational issues to replace those 2020 headaches. Workplace safety requirements are evolving with new state safety and health mandates, and changes in the White House and government agency leadership will mean new enforcement approaches by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Workplace vaccine programs raise workers’ compensation and employer liability issues as well as wage and hour and equal opportunity concerns. Add to that clients with varying approaches to all of the above, and staffing firms are left with “new normalitis.” Hear from experts who will help your staffing firm navigate changes, stay compliant, and keep your business healthy going forward.

Presenters: J. Scott Bicksler, lead safety manager, Aerotek; Benjamin D. Briggs, Esq., partner, labor and employment, Seyfarth Shaw LLP

Breakout Discussion Groups—Return to Work Issues Post-Covid-19

As COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available, staffing agencies must determine whether they will make vaccinations mandatory, offer incentives for vaccination, require clients to vaccinate temporary workers, or impose new safety measures. During this breakout discussion, learn and share with your colleagues how staffing agencies and clients are addressing return to work legal considerations.

1:45–2:30 p.m.

The “American Rescue Plan”—What Does It Mean for Staffing Firms?

.75 Legal CE Hours
Staffing firms could face major cost increases under the sweeping $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package which President Biden signed into law March 11. The plan re-enacts the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, expands the reasons for FFCRA paid sick leave, extends its related tax credits, and increases the length of paid family and medical leave. It also extends federal unemployment insurance benefits and expands eligibility for premium tax subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, which could increase tax penalties for some staffing firms. Find out what’s at stake for your company.
