MSA Establishes Leadership Team for 2011

Elections were held during the December 14th membership meeting and the 2011 Executive Board has been established; Rick Holden of Maine Staffing Group was elected as President, Joel Gratwick of Bonney Staffing was elected Vice President and will also continue his role as Chairman of the Legislative Committee, and Cathy DeMerchant of Capital Area Staffing Solutions was elected as Treasurer. The contract for MSA’s Policy Consultant David Clough of Enterprise Policy Group was renewed through the end of 2011.

“With the overwhelming change in leadership in Augusta, 2011 presents a great opportunity for MSA to introduce itself to policymakers and let them know what a positive impact the Staffing Industry has on jobs, business success, and the overall economy in Maine.”, Holden said at the meeting. He went on to state that the executive team does not feel this is the time to sit back and not be prepared for any potentially negative legislation. There are a number of issues, including Health Care Reform, that need MSA’s attention.

People are encouraged to contact the executive team with any questions about the MSA or the staffing industry in Maine.

MSA Joins Coalition to Promote Employing People with Disabilities

The Maine Staffing Association has announced that it has become a Business Partner with WORKING TOGETHER, a coalition of Maine businesses seeking to expand the employment of people with disabilities. After a presentation at its March meeting by Merritt T. Carey, Esq., MSA members unanimously voted to join the coalition, whose mission is to help Maine employers capitalize on an untapped source of employees: individuals with disabilities.
Employing people with disabilities is rapidly becoming part of our business landscape. Our workforce is aging, injured veterans are returning from Iraq, and we are experiencing the beginning of an employee shortage. Integrating people with disabilities into our workforce provides solutions on many levels. Getting involved now exemplifies forward and creative thinking plus good business strategy. For more information about Working Together go to their website at www.expandingmainesworkforce.com or contact Merritt Carey at (207) 828-4882.
