ASA Staffing Index Remains Flat
Staffing employment for the week of Sept. 7–13 was 97.90, according to the ASA Staffing Index. Temporary and contract staffing employment decreased 0.56% from the prior week. Survey respondents attribute the decrease to the Labor Day holiday on the 7th. Staffing employment was 4.80% lower than the same week last year, which did not include Labor Day. Over the past 30 days, staffing employment decreased 0.43%. This week, containing the 12th, will be used in the September monthly employment situation report that will be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Oct. 2.
The ASA Staffing Index is reported nine days after each workweek, making it a near real-time measure of staffing employment trends. ASA research shows that staffing employment is a coincident economic indicator.
