ASA Staffing Index Rises Above 97 in October


ASA Staffing Index Monthly Report, October 2016

Staffing employment for the week of Oct. 10–16 increased to 97.33, according to the ASA Staffing Index—surpassing the value of 97 for the first time this year. Temporary and contract staffing employment was 0.53% higher than the prior week and was 1.05% lower than the same week last year.

This week, containing the 12th, will be used in the October monthly employment situation report that will be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Nov. 4.

The four-week moving average for the ASA Staffing Index was 96.58, the highest four-week moving average so far this year, and was 1.81% lower than the comparable period of last year.

The ASA Staffing Index is reported nine days after each workweek, making it a near real-time measure of staffing employment trends. ASA research shows that staffing employment has historically been a coincident economic indicator.
