American Staffing Association and National Safety Council
Helpmates Cos., a staffing, recruiting, and workforce solutions company serving Southern California, is the first to earn the Safety Standard of Excellence® mark from the American Staffing Association. The program, developed by ASA and the National Safety Council, promotes industry-wide safety best practices.
Ensuring temporary worker safety and well-being is the responsibility of every staffing company. In 2013, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration launched its Temporary Worker Initiative focused on staffing company and host employer compliance with safety and health requirements applicable to temporary workers. Both host employers and staffing firms share responsibility for ensuring temporary worker safety and health and the Safety Standard of Excellence program reinforces this through their documented best practices.
“ASA congratulates Helpmates for being the first staffing company to earn the Safety Standard of Excellence mark and for its commitment to protecting and enhancing temporary worker safety,” said Stephen C. Dwyer, Esq., ASA general counsel. “Other staffing firms are encouraged to participate in the Safety Standard of Excellence program to be better equipped to identify workplace hazards and incidents, and partner with clients to foster safer, healthier workplaces.”
By participating in the Safety Standard of Excellence program, staffing companies, their temporary workers, and host employers can build a mutually beneficial relationship to help identify and mitigate workplace hazards and exposures, ensure clear communication between the staffing firm and host employer, and clearly delineate the safety responsibilities of each party.
“When it comes to temporary worker safety, Helpmates has set a model of excellence,” said Amy Harper, Ph.D., National Safety Council director of workplace initiatives and Journey to Safety Excellence. “We are proud to work with the company as it continues efforts to protect workers in dual employer situations.”
“All members of the Helpmates family are extremely proud of our leadership in the staffing industry to ensure the safety of employees, and as we continue to demonstrate our commitment to continuous safety improvement by being the first to earn the Safety Standard of Excellence mark, and our active involvement with the National Safety Council,” said Dan Struve, Helpmates chairman and chief executive officer.
