ASA Staffing Index Grew at Record Pace in May

ASA Staffing Index Monthly Report, May 2018

The ASA Staffing Index for the week of May 7–13 edged down 0.1% but remained at a rounded value of 97, a new high for the 19th week of the year. The index continued a streak of record high readings for the comparable week—a trend that began in April. Temporary and contract staffing employment was 2.2% higher than the same week last year, the fastest rate of year-to-year growth for this particular week in four years.

This week, containing the 12th, will be used in the May monthly employment situation report that will be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on June 1.

The ASA Staffing Index four-week moving average edged up for the ninth consecutive period to a rounded figure of 97, also a historically high value for the same period. Staffing employment for the four weeks ending May 13 was 2.4% higher year-to-year, growing at pace not seen since 2014.
