Nissen is a policy adviser on the employer and workplace policy team at U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. He possesses deep knowledge of employment and disability issues and has worked closely with organizations supporting the employer community. Prior to joining ODEP, he served the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a director of MS navigator services delivery. As the director, he provided technical assistance and training on the Americans With Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other legislation. During his 22 years at the National MS Society, he oversaw the provision of benefits, employment, and health insurance services for individuals affected by MS. He worked with individuals living with MS, employers, vocational rehabilitation agencies, and other organizations to increase the employability and job retention of people with MS and other adult-onset disabilities.
