Stephen C. Dwyer, Esq.

President & Chief Executive Officer

Dwyer is the association’s primary spokesperson and is responsible for the overall direction and performance of ASA. He previously was president and chief legal and operating officer of the association. He brings a wealth of experience to his ASA leadership role, having served the association for many years as a senior leader and chief advocate. He is a leading authority on the legal and public policy aspects of staffing and has engaged in the association’s legal and public affairs activities as well as testified before legislatures and regulatory bodies and written extensively and spoken widely on the staffing industry. He also serves as the North American representative to the World Employment Confederation. Dwyer received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and his juris doctorate from Boston College Law School.


Lenore Convery - Chief Revenue Officer

Convery is an experienced sales leader with a strong background in the staffing, recruiting, and HR tech space. She has a proven track record of using her deep expertise in building successful and strategic relationships to deliver exceptional client experiences. Prior to joining ASA, Convery was with ClearEdge as senior vice president of sales and marketing. Before that, she spent nearly a decade at Monster as director of the enterprise staffing division. In that role, she led her enterprise sales team to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships that resulted in a consistent customer retention rate of more than 97%. Convery has served on the ASA women in leadership interest group council and was the 2023 ASA Women in Leadership Scholarship Program committee chair. She has also been an active participant in the ASA Mentor Match program.


Toby Malara

Toby Malara, Esq.

Vice President, Government Relations

Malara advises on all staffing-related legislation and regulation, including the Affordable Care Act, immigration/I-9, paid sick leave, sales tax and per diem issues. He also directs the association’s political activities through its political action committee, StaffingPAC.


Jessica McClain, CPA - Chief Financial Officer

Chief Financial Officer

McClain is responsible for the financial, accounting, and general administrative operations of the association. Before joining ASA, she was the CFO for Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, where she oversaw accounting, risk management, property management, product programs, retail operations, and business operations. Prior to that, McClain served as controller for Brand USA. She also spent more than 10 years in public accounting before transitioning to the nonprofit sector. She is a certified public accountant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.


Diana Mertz

Diana Mertz, CAE, CSP

Senior Director, Membership and Engagement

Mertz is responsible for managing membership retention and engagement activities at the association, with a focus on deepening member value and improving retention rates. Upon joining ASA in 2011, she served as Senior Manager of Sections, and has since advanced to Senior Director of Membership and Engagement, assuming greater responsibility and growing the engagement team over the years, including launching the Women in Leadership community and THRIVE events. Prior to joining ASA, Mertz worked at the American Society for Nutrition, where she focused on membership marketing and engagement. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), having earned the credential in 2014, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the ASAE Gold Circle Awards Committee.


Kelly Verberg - Vice President, Membership and Sections

Verberg has general management responsibilities with principal oversight of the association’s membership recruitment, retention, membership sections, and member service functions. Upon joining ASA in 1992, Verberg served as legislative assistant supporting the association’s legal, legislative, government affairs, and chapter relations operations. She also has served ASA as director of membership and membership representative. Prior to joining the association, Verberg was a senior customer service representative with H.J. Heinz Corp.
