Appointment Continues ASA Leadership on the Global Stage
American Staffing Association president Stephen C. Dwyer has been elected to the World Employment Confederation’s board of directors as Regional Representative for North America.
The role represents Dwyer’s first term on the WEC board. He will succeed Richard Wahlquist as ASA chief executive officer effective Jan. 1, 2026, following Wahlquist’s retirement after 36 years with ASA. Wahlquist had served on the WEC board since 2006, and has represented ASA as a member of the WEC General Assembly since 1998.
“It is my honor to share the perspective of the North American staffing, recruiting, and workforce solutions industry with our colleagues throughout the world,” Dwyer said. “I’m excited to serve alongside the global leaders of the WEC board as we champion new growth opportunities for our members.”
“On behalf of the World Employment Confederation, I extend our deepest gratitude to Richard Wahlquist for his extraordinary two decades of service and leadership within our global community,” said Bettina Schaller, president of the World Employment Confederation. “From his early involvement in the confederation in the late 1990s, through his record-setting tenure as North America’s representative on the WEC board, Richard has been a tireless advocate for the human resource services industry and a driving force behind many of our strategies, initiatives, and partnerships. His vision and commitment have left an indelible mark on our federation and the world of work at large.
“As Richard retires from his role at ASA, we warmly welcome Stephen Dwyer as the new CEO and as the Regional Representative for North America in WEC’s board. We look forward to working with Stephen to continue advancing our shared mission of shaping the future of work.”
