AI, Part 1: Job Seekers See AI as More of a Hindrance When Seeking New Employment Opportunities

  • Many job seekers perceive AI hiring tools as being more prone to bias than human recruiters.
  • At the same time, job seekers report using AI in their own job searches.
  • Staffing firms must ensure compliance with relevant laws when employing AI in their hiring processes.

Nearly half of employed U.S. job seekers (49%) believe AI tools used in job recruiting are more biased than their human counterparts, according to data from an ASA Workforce Monitor® survey conducted in June 2023 among 2,037 U.S. adults (of whom 1,225 were employed). At the same time, the study found that 39% of current job seekers have used AI tools to assist in applying for a job. AI tools have the potential to save both job seekers and recruiters time and effort in the hiring process. However, the potential for bias exists, and staffing firms must make sure they’re in compliance with relevant laws.
