Certification
ASA offers three professional certification programs designed specifically for professionals within the staffing industry: Certified Staffing Professional®, Technical Services Certified℠, and Certified Search Consultant®.
Both CSP®, and TSC℠certification programs require a review and demonstrated knowledge of state and federal labor and employment laws and the association’s code of ethics and good practices. Certification candidates study materials prepared by ASA, including two textbooks—Employment Law for Staffing Professionals and Co-Employment: Employer Liability Issues in Third-Party Staffing Arrangements—a federal employment law workbook, and a state employment law workbook, and then take a two-hour exam that has been validated by third-party education experts.
The CSC® certification program requires a review and demonstrated knowledge of federal employment laws specific to recruiters, on state licensing and registration laws applicable to direct hire firms, and the association’s code of ethics and good practices. Certification candidates study materials prepared by ASA, including one textbook—Employment Law for Search Consultants—and then take a one-hour exam that has been validated by third-party education experts.
Study topics for the CSP credential include the pre-employment process, equal employment opportunity laws and regulations, candidate screening, the Immigration Reform and Control Act, substance abuse and drug testing in the workplace, employment agreements, wage and hour laws, family and medical leave, workplace safety and the Occupational Safety and Health Act, workers’ compensation, wrongful discharge, labor–management relations, employee benefits, co-employment issues, and preventive measures to reduce employment-related litigation. The TSC credential includes the above as well as material on legal, legislative, and regulatory requirements applicable to technical staffing, such as employee classification and contractual agreements. Anyone earning the TSC will automatically earn the CSP.
Study topics for the CSC credential include agreements with clients, Equal Employment Opportunity Laws, Immigration Reform and Control Act, the pre-employment process, and state licensing and registration laws applicable to direct hire firms.
Staffing professionals who successfully complete the certification exam are entitled to bear the CSC, CSP, or TSC, CSP designation. To maintain their designations, certified staffing professionals must obtain a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education within three years, of which at least six hours must be on employment law.
