The American Staffing Association yesterday afternoon announced that John A. Thomas, CSP, CSC, professional staffing field consultant with Express Employment Professionals in Oklahoma City, is the 2018 ASA Volunteer of the Year. Thomas was honored during the annual membership meeting and luncheon at Staffing World® 2018, the association’s annual convention and expo, in metro Washington, DC.
The ASA Volunteer of the Year program, launched in 2016, recognizes an individual who is an outstanding contributor on an ASA committee, section council, regional council, task force, or working group. Honorees are selected based on nominations submitted by peers from across the U.S.—all ASA volunteers.
Thomas has been an ASA volunteer for more than 20 years. During this time, he has served on the ASA board of directors, and on myriad association committees, task forces, councils, and working groups. Notably, Thomas served one term as chairman of the professional‒managerial section council and two terms as chairman of the search and placement section council. He currently is an active member of the education and certification, professional-managerial section council, and staffing as a career committees. At the ASA-affiliated chapter level, Thomas served three terms as president of the ASA Missouri and Kansas Search and Staffing Association and is currently the chapter leader liaison for ASA.
A recognized staffing and recruiting industry thought leader, Thomas has presented before audiences in 40 states for a variety of organizations—including ASA, the National Association of Professional Staffing, and the Society for Human Resource Management. He also shares his deep knowledge of the industry by contributing to industry journals and publishing online training programs and guides.
“On behalf of the ASA board of directors, membership, and staff, I salute John Thomas for his more than two decades of dedicated service to ASA,” said Richard Wahlquist, ASA president and chief executive officer. “Volunteers are the lifeblood of this association. ASA values having someone with John’s level of expertise and passion give back year after year to help advance the interests of the association and in turn, the entire staffing and recruiting industry.”
