The American Staffing Association announces two recent promotions―Stephen Dwyer, Esq., to chief operating officer, and Lisa Simpson, CMP, to vice president, events and supplier relations―and the addition of Dustin Norwood in the newly created position of vice president and chief learning officer.
Dwyer is taking on the additional role of COO along with his current responsibilities as senior vice president and chief legal officer. As COO, he has general management responsibilities with principal oversight of the association’s corporate alliances, information systems, marketing, meetings and events, publications, public relations, and research. Dwyer joined ASA in 2002 after being associated with Washington, DC, and New York law firms.
Dwyer replaces former COO Steven P. Berchem, CSP, who is leaving ASA after 22 years to pursue new personal and professional opportunities.
Simpson possesses a 16-year tenure with ASA. In the newly created role of VP, events and sales, she oversees all logistical considerations of the association’s major events—Staffing World®, ASA Staffing Law Conference, ASA Staffing Connect, and additional larger-scale virtual programs. In addition, she directs the association’s corporate alliances team, which is in charge of associate members (staffing suppliers), corporate partners, exhibitor relationships, advertising, and sponsorships. Prior to ASA, she held event planning and exhibitor support positions with Dobson & Associates, the National Automobile Dealers Association, Water Environment Federation, and United States Telecom Association.
Norwood joins ASA from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office where he was deputy CLO and oversaw developmental programs including coaching, mentoring, administrative professional development, tuition reimbursement, financial planning, and new employee onboarding. As CLO for ASA, Norwood oversees all member educational and certification programs and identifies, develops, implements, and evaluates instructional strategies, programs, and learning technologies in support of the association’s mission.
“I am delighted to announce the promotions of two long-term, dedicated, and talented staff members to new roles in ASA and to welcome Dustin to the association’s senior management team,” said Richard Wahlquist, ASA president and chief executive officer. “I am confident that Stephen, Dustin, and Lisa will help guide ASA to new heights of success in the future. I also want to thank Steve Berchem for his more than two decades of service, dedication, and leadership, and for all of his efforts in creating and leading initiatives to advance the staffing industry and the association. He is an industry thought leader and innovator and will be missed.”
